The Marine Iguanas of the Galapagos are the only type of iguana that dives for its food. Feet below the frigid waters grow the main food source for the Marine Iguana: algae. The iguanas will spend hours in the sun warming up their body heat enough to withstand the dive. Once underwater they grapple the boulders with their claws, and hold on while they feed as the surge tries to shake them loose. This iguana took a break from eating long enough to make eye contact with me for this stunning portrait, perfect for a dining room or bathroom.
